MPS 3.5 to MPS 4.X

MPS 3.5 to 4.x – Do you really need to upgrade your legacy Nortel MPS? Many enterprises are being pushed to upgrade to MPS 4.x from the MPS 3.5 version.

From a platform point of view, the MPS releases MPS 4.0 and 4.1 refresh some of the hardware and software on the platform i.e. Windows 2008 and Nuance 10.

The move to upgrade enterprises from MPS 3.5 to MPS 4.x is because of reported security issues surrounding running MPS 3.5 on Windows 2003.

To run on Windows 2008 or 2011 requires companies to move to 4.0 or 4.1. However outside the security issue there is precious little extra functionality to be gained in migrating. In fact very few companies have made the transition from MPS 3.5 to MPS 4.0. Outside of the cost of this upgrade there is the time taken up with a migration and the associated risk versus the reward to be considered.

In the IVR or other systems that use 2003 that are primarily on isolated networks, meaning they don’t access the internet on a regular basses and don’t have users logging in from out side the network the security risk is slight, if you have properly setup firewall. Additional protection, on any system used to administer the system remotely should additionally reduce the risk. Proper access to these servers should be through a secure VPN and they should not be accessible from an external IP.

PSS can upgrade your servers to Windows 2008 and can get MPS 3.5 running on them.
