Is Your TTS Vendor Still Speaking To You?

Nuance, the market leader in Text-to-Speech (TTS) software, has recently announced End of Life and End of Support on some of its TTS products. For instance, Nuance RealSpeak TTS 4.5 was officially End of Support in March 2014.

Unfortunately…

We all know what End of Support means. It means the vendor is no longer prepared to carry expertise, spares, and other resources in order to support an old product. It means support for these products is either refused or prohibitively expensive through the original vendor. It also means that they expect you to upgrade to a new version if you want to be supported in the longer term.

RealSpeak TTS has a long history, from L&H through SpeechWorks to Nuance, and it is still very widely used. Nuance now concentrates on its newer Vocalizer TTS product, so upgrading RealSpeak doesn’t make a lot of sense: the roadmap is uncertain.

Converting to Nuance Vocalizer may not be a good option either. Interfaces and other details change, extensive testing would be required, and you lose the popular Prompt Sculptor tools too.

Why Not Keep It?

But actually, whether it’s RealSpeak TTS or an older version of Nuance Vocalizer, or even a legacy product from a different vendor, your TTS software is probably working perfectly well today. It’s not an item that needs frequent patches or upgrades, and it probably rarely goes wrong. So why not keep it?

We Can Help!

PSS can help you do that. PSS has supported RealSpeak since before it was a Nuance product. We have a deep understanding of TTS and its interactions with telephony and contact center systems. Our experienced staff were involved in developing the W3C standards for TTS, and have deployed and supported dozens of TTS solutions for companies such as American Express, Vodafone, …

PSS has provided 3rd party support for End of Life products for well over a decade now, allowing blue chip companies and smaller businesses to keep their perfectly adequate solutions even when the vendor withdraws or reduces support. We provide a long term solution. We can help you resist the forced march to unnecessary and expensive upgrades. As an independent company, we will not pressure you to buy new licenses or install new hardware.

So if your RealSpeak TTS system is still speaking your language, even though the vendor tells you it is End of Life, speak to PSS. We can help you.
